The quality of the fish and the dishes were surprisingly good. I had somewhat low expectations but I was pleasantly surprised when everything from the service to the food was great.

TL/dr: for high quality sushi and great service, go now Three times now, at different times of day, I've eaten at Kumi - and it's consistently delicious. The sashimi slice size is perfect -- not too thin or too thick; the fish is always exactly the right temp and freshness. Our server has been the same charming, highly attentive lady every time. The restaurant is just the right size to give diners plenty of room, while we also enjoyed the camaraderie offered by several tables enjoying GREAT sushi together. Inventive presentations/dishes, too.; see photos. Excellent miso soup! It's all just so goooood

Made a reservation for 4 for a Friday night. It wasn't packed because I think it's around the holidays. When I made the reservation a week ahead, I talked to Daisy and I asked if she had uni and chutoro and she said if I like that, she will order ahead to make sure they have it in stock for when we come! So kind of her!! We ordered chutoro, uni, A5 seared, assorted sashimi and a roll. The chutoro was really good. The Hokkaido uni was fantastic. It was so smooth, creamy and sweet! If you like uni, this is a must. It's served with some rice in the bottom and you just eat the whole thing in one bite. I had 4!!!! The A5 was so tender. I usually get it seared and so they said they can do it seared or not which was nice. They have a bar and alcohol as well. Anyways, great sushi place and the owner so so friendly and kind. Sushi was great. Will definitely come back again.

One of my favorite restaurants changed and got this place earlier in the year. I didn't find out till recently. Daisy is the owner. So we went to check it out. The place is small and on the corner. They have street parking but in a downtown area may be hard to get at certain times. I found a spot a few doors down. I thought there was a line to get in but people were just standing at the corner talking. We didn't have a reservation and there were only a few tables of customers. Seated right away. We were greeted by Daisy and caught up a little. I wanted a sake and told her to get me something smooth. She brought me a Kikusui Funaguchi and it came in a small can. It was great and I liked it. I wanted to try the oysters but she was out. I would have to get them another time. I got the Chirashi Sushi. I wasn't disappointed , it was fresh and flavorful. Loved it. My wife tried the Agedashi tofu but it wasn't the same. It was like other places and she used to love the one Daisy had at her other restaurant. She said she could make it for my wife when she comes in again. Daisy said that the clientele here preferer this way. We got the garlic salmon which was good and tried one of the popular rolls a sake punch. It was pretty good and I liked it. A nice place and we will have to come back and try more food. Glad we found your place Daisy.

I've experienced some customer service nightmares as of late, so coming to Kumi on G & 14th for date night last week was a refreshing change. I was in the mood for vegetarian friendly sushi roll options that don't bore one to tears, and Kumi delivered. We were greeted warmly upon entering and seated in minutes. Every person we encountered during our visit was lovely. We didn't wait for anything, with three or four other parties in the restaurant at the same time as us. Kumi Sushi is on the smaller side, but I did note a few tables available for larger parties. I found it to be an intimate setting, and appreciated the modern decor and comfortable chairs. The menu offered exciting options for those with dietary restrictions, as I mentioned earlier. Tempted by the bevvie list that included yuzu sake and sparkling yuzu, I went with our usual warm sake to share with our wakame appetizer. That yuzu sake is happening on a later visit though. I chose the vegetarian dragon roll, which was soy wrapped tempura asparagus, and topped with avocado and delicious thin strings of crispy leek. This was yummy and satisfying! There were a few other vegetarian roll options, which can also be made vegan upon request. I neglected to ask about whether the tempura is vegan. Our wakame salad app was delicious as well. We were very happy with our choices. I would say the prices are about what one can expect for sushi rolls in the area. For the fantastic service, relaxing ambiance, and quality of their offerings, Kumi is well worth a visit. I will be back next time I am hungry in the Mansion Flats/Downtown border area of my lovely Sacramento. Vegan Corner: vegan appetizer and sushi options not well marked but available upon request, several vegetarian options Bathroom Report: did not partake on this visit, bummer dude Parking: street parking, mind the signs, we got by with free 2 hour parking

New sushi spot in downtown! It's not a huge restaurant - they had about 10 tables that can seat 4 people at each. They may be able to accommodate big groups but I wouldn't recommend it because again, it's not a big restaurant. Groups of 4 or less is the way to go. I tried the Yuzu Kamachi which is Kamachi in a yuzu and passionfruit sauce. It's different and it was delicious! The flavors meshed so well. Also got the chicken yakitori which are the grilled chicken skewers. They're packed with so much flavor and were tender. And I also tried the Chef's Special Nigiri. I wish we got an explanation of which nigiri was which, but at least it was good (:
